It depends on which "Humane Society" you are asking about:

Local humane society -- provides shelter services for abandoned and/or abused pets, adoption services for same, education on responsible pet care, veterinary information and services, including vaccination, health care, neutering, and euthanasia, along with a multitude of other services.

Humane Society of the United States -- provides its executives with large salaries and pensions, works to end pet ownership and animal agriculture through deceptive voter initiatives, and uses deceptive television advertising to garner support from unsuspecting donors. DOES NOT provide any animal shelter support of its own, except for paid inspection and analysis services of local shelters.
