There are two types:

  1. Killing or humane slaughter, which is done only with certain wildlife populations that are not in control in accordance with what their habitat can hold, and with certain herds of livestock that are infected with a disease that cannot easily be controlled, like Foot and Mouth or Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy.
  2. Selling, which is done with most, if not all, livestock operations, both intensive and extensive.
