Babies develop excellent vision by about one month old. In the first few years of life, the brain lacks the ability to form long-term memories. This may account for the fact that people cannot remember their own birth.

Being blind before age three is possible, but not always the case. Some people are born blind or develop blindness in early childhood, while others lose their sight later in life. Memory and vision are separate functions, so not being able to remember being born does not necessarily mean someone was blind before age three.
