That the moon causes the ebb and flow of the earth's ocean tides has long been known. However, the French magazine Terre Sauvage reports that scientists from CNRS (French National Center of Scientific Research) now affirm that the moon has a similar effect on the earth's land surfaces. By means of a probe placed in a pool of brine in a sealed cave 3,300 feet [1,000 m] beneath the earth's surface, researchers were able to detect a rise and fall of the cave's contents every 12 hours. This movement, caused by the minute expansion and contraction of the cave's walls, corresponds to the moon's rotation around the earth and proves that the moon is indeed the source of what Terre Sauvage calls the "surprising subterranean respiration."

When did Asians appear on earth?

Asian populations have been present on Earth for tens of thousands of years, with ancient human remains found in Asia dating back to over 50,000 years. The specific time frame for the appearance of Asians on Earth corresponds with the migration patterns of early humans out of Africa and into Asia.

Some experts believe there were no people in the Americas until?

until around 15,000 years ago, based on the evidence of the Clovis culture. However, some newer findings suggest that humans could have been present in the Americas earlier than previously thought, possibly as far back as 20,000-30,000 years ago.

When was the world made?

The age of the Earth is estimated to be around 4.5 billion years old, based on scientific evidence such as radiometric dating of rocks and fossils. The universe itself is much older, with the Big Bang estimated to have occurred around 13.8 billion years ago.

Were the Homo erectus the first people on earth?

Homo erectus were the predecessors of our own species, Homo sapiens, so they certainly lived on earth before us. Why do people not believe in the greenhouse effect?

Most people believe in the greenhouse effect, which is how the earth has kept warm enough for life for millions of years. Some people don't believe that global warming is happening. These (sweepingly) are sometimes the same people who do not trust their government and who do not believe that smoking causes cancer.

What is the Earth's movement that takes about 26000 years is called?

Precession

Many scientists believe that crustal plate movement occurs because of convection cells contained in earth's?

mantle. Heat from the Earth's core causes convection currents in the mantle, which drives the movement of the tectonic plates on the surface. This process is known as plate tectonics and is responsible for shaping the Earth's surface over millions of years.

Why do crystal plate move?

The Earth's crust is formed of plates that are in constant slow movement. Scientists believe that this movement began 3.2 billion years ago. Before plate tectonics, the Earth's surface was shaped by different processes.

Is Earth old?
