If there is a hole in the engine then something came out or tried to come out. If by chance the engine started and ran again it would run poorly and not for long. I would advise to have a mechanic determine what to do next, don't drive it.
you cant drive your car if you have hole in your engine because your engine is a propeller for your car.
the first question is what caused the hole? did the timing chain break and hit the cover, second is it a 2.4 liter engine?
You start the engine in neutral.
??? Huh?

A hole in the engine block is God's way of telling you to get a different car. You get a hole in the engine block when a piece of your engine--normally a rod cap--comes off at full speed and goes through the side of the block. And there's no way to fix it.
Bad fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, or clogged injectors would be the place to start. If it's an older car with an engine mounted fuel pump, you could have a hole in your fuel line which would prevent suction from the tank.
If the oil is low in your car, it can eventually cause your car to stall and not start. It can also kill your engine.
Not unless it is a carburated engine.
In those days, the only way to start the car is to use the "starter lever" which is a long bar with male/female head/socket fitted to it and the car engine. You insert this through a hole in front, and rotate it a few times to start the car. Very similar to kick starting a motor bike. Self Starter was invented much later. When you had a manual starter car, and if you were to be frail and cannot start the car, then park the car in a slope somewhere near the house, and when the car starts to move, then engage the gear to "start it"
