The Roanoke Colony likely lived in simple structures like cabins made of wood and thatch. They may have also used tents or other temporary shelters while establishing the settlement.
The Roanoke colony lived in small wooden houses and structures that they built themselves, using available resources like timber and thatch. They also utilized tents and lean-tos for temporary shelter.
The Roanoke Colony disappeared in 1590. It was established in 1587 as the first English colony in North America, but when a supply ship arrived three years later, the colony had been deserted and the fate of its inhabitants remains a mystery.
If you mean the 1587 colony - popularly known as "the lost colony" - the settlers did not return to England. Governor John White left Roanoke Island in August of 1587 and returned to England to secure more supplies. The remainder of the settlers stayed on Roanoke Island. When John White came back to the island in 1590 he found no trace of his colony. Their fate is unknown. There are several theories as to what might have happened to them; some may have moved south to live with the friendly natives and some may have tried to sail back to England. There is some evidence to support the theory that some moved north towards the Chesapeake. The two earlier voyages (1584 and 1585) were largely reconnaissance voyages to scout suitable locations for military bastions. Neither of these voyages included women and children. The 1585 members left Roanoke Island with Sir Francis Drake, leaving 15 men there to take care of the fort. Bad leadership, blunders and cruelty towards the natives, and lack of supplies were largely responsible for the failure of this attempt at colonization and when Sir Francis Drake arrived at Roanoke Island the men were only too glad to return to England.
The people of Roanoke Island likely lived in small, thatched-roof houses made from wood and plant materials. These houses were typically one-room structures that were either rounded or rectangular in shape. The materials used for construction were readily available on the island.
Well, Powhatan probably had most or all of the men killed, but the women, I should think, were probably kept as wives. John Smith reported that Powhatan told him he had ordered the Roanoke colonists killed after he heard they had sought shelter with one of the tribes he ruled. I think it more probable that this was a lie. Powhatan likely did not trust the English to leave whatever remained of the Roanoke colonists to live with the natives with whom presumably there had been marriages and children. The English would surely have felt compelled to "rescue" their fellow countrymen, ripping families apart in the process. There are reports of Native Americans in the Chesapeake area in the 1700s with gray eyes who claimed white ancestors. This would seem to indicate that they may have been descendants of those settlers of the Roanoke colony who survived.

The Spanish may have been to blame. All effort had to be placed into defeating the Spanish Armada, and Raleigh was prevented from maintaining contact with the Roanoke colony. By the time relief could be sent to Roanoke, the entire colony had disappeared. It is supposed that they felt themselves abandoned by England and left the colony to live with the native population, but their exact fate is unknown. The Jamestown colony was decimated by starvation and disease, but the colonists at Roanoke vanished entirely.

Roanoke because when the English came back they were gone nobody was thereThe Lost Colony is the Roanoke Colony. It was founded by the English explorers Ralph Lane and Richard Grenville and was financed by Sir Walter Raleigh. It is situated in the present day Roanoke Island in Dare County, North Carolina. The Island of Roanoke in Virgina is known as the Lost Colony because when John White left to England for supplies and came back 3 years later, all the colonists mysteriously had vanished, leaving only one clue, the word CROATIAN carved into a tree. To this day we wonder what happened. They could have left to live with the Croatians. They could have been captured by Spaniards. There could have been war. But the truth remains hidden from the world.
