The most likely cause is an 'Air Lock' in your heater matrix, probably caused when you changed the thermostat.
There are 2 ways of dealing with this;
Run the engine, with the heater temperature setting on cold, when your engine reaches normal running temperature, open the heater valve to full. This can work sometimes.
For this second method, you need the engine cold:
Remove the hose that connects from your cylinder head to your heater and raise it fully.
Pour some coolant mixture into the end of the pipe, until it flows from the pipe connection.
Reattach the pipe and secure in place.
Your heater should now work normally. If it doesn't, you may need to replace the water valve or flush the heater matrix.
Check for a heater flow valve in the heater hose they can rust shut easily it is a valve in the heater hose that opens when you turn on the heat and shuts when its not in use, if not then probably the core is plugged a radiator flush might help but you may need to have it cleaned and repaired.
Thermostat housing
Sounds like the thermostat is stuck open. Replace the thermostat.
Drain about 1 gallon of coolant from radiator Remove housing at engine end of upper radiator hose Note how thermostat is installed Clean surfaces Replace thermostat and gasket Re-Install Refill coolant slowly to prevent an airlock Start engine and look for leaks Run engine to normal operating temperature with heater on Re-check coolant level
A water thermostat stuck open. Air in the heater hose lines (caused by low radiator coolant). Air temperature (mechanical) control cable not opening the heater hose water valve (under hood).
Could be: Low coolant in the radiator - or - thermostat stuck open - or - heater core plugged.
hello Can you tell me why the heater on my 2002 toyota yaris isnt working? Ive changed the thermostat, flushed out the radiator and also the heater matrix behind the dashboard is getting red hot as well
thermostat is stuck With my car, it was Heater matrix clogged with radiator sealant. The workshop cleaned it and it's start working fine!
Check the thermostat or the radiator. The thermostat could be sticking or the radiator could be plugged.
try changing the thermostat With mine it was Heater matrix clogged with radiator sealant. The workshop cleaned it and it's start working fine!
Maybe thermostat is stuck open With my car, it was Heater matrix clogged with radiator sealant. The workshop cleaned it and it's start working fine!
replace the thermostat which is located in the housing that the top radiator hose attches to the engine With my car, it was Heater matrix clogged with radiator sealant. The workshop cleaned it and it's start working fine!
The temperature of the coolant entering the heater core is controlled by the engine thermostat. The engine coolant thermostat is generally located at the engine end of the upper radiator hose.
Check for a heater flow valve in the heater hose they can rust shut easily it is a valve in the heater hose that opens when you turn on the heat and shuts when its not in use, if not then probably the core is plugged a radiator flush might help but you may need to have it cleaned and repaired.
try the simple first: replace the thermostat, next flush the whole cooling system (not just radiator), if that doesn't work, you probably need a new heater core.
If you have replaced the water pump then flush the radiator with CLR also check to see if the fan is working properly.
Yes it will stop heating up...........
