The main argument for giving the vote to 18 year olds was that if an 18 year old was old enough to be drafted into the military and die for his country, then he was old enough to vote.
Another argument for lowering the voting age can be summarised by the following quote:
"No taxation without representation"
In the US you can legally leave school at 16 years of age, start work and therefore pay tax. As such it would not be unreasonable to expect to have some say in how your tax money was spent. Therefore it could be argued that if you are old enough to fund government, you are old enough to chose who should run it and how your tax money is spent and hence should be allowed to vote.
The Boston Massacre was one of many early events that happened in 1770. It was made into a propaganda paper with art by Paul Revere to stir up public opinions. The tea party was a group of smugglers throwing tea into Boston Harbor to protest the lowering of the tea tax making the smuggled Dutch tea higher in cost. It happened in 1773 resulting in the closing of the harbor. There were 3 years difference. They weren’t so much connected, but symbolic of the problems in the colonies and the king.
Leap years occur every four years.
only a couple of months. it took 4 years to paint the entire thing
In today's environment both Liberals and Conservatives in Congress are looking to lower corporate tax rates. Both Liberals and Conservatives favor a simplified tax code that removes "special breaks" and "loopholes" that were put in the tax code passed by Congress over the years. That said, corporate taxes are part of the tax code and should be "fair." On the question of whether fairness includes higher overall taxes or lower overall taxes in respect to a new code Conservatives are more likely to be in favor of lower taxes and Liberals more likely to be in favor of higher taxes. For example, a corporate tax rate of 30% prior to closing loopholes and special breaks might be changed to 10% from the Conservative point of view and might be changed to 20% from the Liberal point of view. Both choices are lower than the original 30% but the Liberals want to pay for government and the Conservatives of today have been co-opted by the starve government folks who would take taxes below what was necessary to keep government providing services.
10 million years since our first ancestors and about 250 thousand years for man as you know. 1000 years since we have started to eat our planet to waste.
The arguement was to make the voting age stay at 18 years old.
The election of 1968 was the last U.S. presidential election in which the minimum voting age was 21. On July 1, 1971, the 26th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified, lowering the minimum voting age to 18.
The voting age in the Netherlands is 18 years old.
In Romania the voting is universal after 18 years.
The voting age in Russia is 18 years old
On July 1, 1971, when the 26th Amendment was ratified, it became impermissible for states to deny citizens eighteen years of age or older the right to vote. However, Georgia (in 1943) and Kentucky (in 1955) had previously lowered the minimum voting age to 18. States are not prohibited by the the 26th Amendment from lowering the voting age below 18.
The legal voting age in Colombia is 18 years old.
The voting age in British Columbia is 18 years old.
The voting age in the state of Arizona is 18 years old. The voting age is the same across the entire country, including US territories.
Well, that is not lowering the age, it is increasing the age.
18 years
Voting first began in 1901 which coincided with Federation. That makes it as of 2011, 110 years old.
