IQ generally does not have much effect on political affiliation. People generally develop political bias before developing the higher brain functions that would tend to make that more rational. As a result most people pick there political affiliation based on the credibility of someone in their life when then decide to become political. They may choose to be of the same party of someone they respect or oppose someone they do not.

IQ enables a person to better apply reason and gather information at an increased rate. It does not enable a person to solve problems where his emotions over-ride the answer.
