Section 8 is a part of a government program invented in the 1930’s. After the Great Depression, there was a shortage of affordable housing for the poor. Now the program has changed a bit. It pays the difference between what tenants can afford to pay and what the landlord charges for rent. Section 8 is a federally funded government program. It falls under government assistance.
