If the engine was OFF while it was on its side, and it sat there for a long time, it could have leaked oil into the cylinder but it shouldn't have caused serious damage.
An engine about to blow would have typically shown signs that is is in trouble long before it lets go. Unless it has been abused, it would take quite some time to meet its demise.
