a tattoo can be considered or represent anything the tattoee wants it to be...
i have no idea why you think that you can't. I'm a tattoo artist and I've never heard of anyone refusing to tattoo this on people.
It all depends on where on the side the tattoo is. A tattoo on your belly will expand with the skin. What tattoo artists usually say is that you need to moisturize the skin a lot to keep it flexible, and you might require some touch up work after giving birth and when you're back in your normal body shape again.
I think it has no particular meaning, I think it is just someones idea of an original tattoo.
I think that the Chinese symbol for serenity is a good idea. I am getting it on my wrist next month.
When you think of Art, most people think of pictures and paintings. But art has to meanings- one pictures and paintings and drawings- but the other music, drama and literature. Paintings are visual- music and drama are Fine arts. These were created because those things were both considered arts, only completely different things. They were so you didn't get confused! Fine art is separated by visual art by the way the content is transmitted to the public . A fine art use thoughts, ideas, philosophy which don't have a visual support to be appreciated. For example in poetry what makes the art is the sense of words , the poetic idea , philosophical thoughts which are meant to prove something in a different context. When a picture or drawing is done there could be both type of arts involved , visual and also fine art but depends of what kind of picture is the one exposed. When is a symbolic picture there is a fine art inside of course and could be also a visual art if the picture wants to express something from nature in a very detailed and impressionistic way. So an impressionistic picture can be considered just a visual art if there are no ideas which may suggest in the mind of public and an abstract picture can be considered only fine art if there is no decorative content of good value to be considered art after all. We can go further in poetry and considering a poem much more as a visual art than fine art when it describes a natural environment or a person and not a meaning and usually this kind of poem is not even considered as poetry but just impressionistic verses. Regarding music this is definitively a fine art because is not necessary any visual support for brain to receive it, and also good music can be produced by totally deaf persons as Beethoven become after a while. Finally visual arts are considered like this because what makes them art is what public see and like and not what public understands... When understanding is involved there is a fine art over there for sure.
A visual representation is shown of an idea or image that is presented in a particular way to have it's meaning or symbolism.

An image is a visual representation that conveys information or an idea, while a symbol is a representation that carries additional meaning beyond its literal interpretation. Symbols are often culturally or contextually specific and can have deeper implications or associations than images.
