Hopefully by the time they are a CT scan technologist they wont need "practice" starting IVs. CT scan areas usually work closely with the ER and many times if they are busy and the CT area is not busy we will help them by starting their IVs for them.

Ct scanning protocols for head trauma?

A brain scan after a head trauma is nearly always done without contrast, because bleeding also shows up white on the scan. The scan should be done as quickly as possible with the shortest scan time because patients with head injuries are often restless. If there is a suspected neck injury, the patients head will have be scanned in the position it is in, and the patient can not be moved into the 'head box'. After the scan, both brain and bone setting views should be looked at to establish if there are any fractures.

Why metformin not allowed before ct scan?

Metformin is not typically allowed before a CT scan with contrast because it can increase the risk of lactic acidosis, especially in patients with compromised kidney function. The contrast dye used in the scan can temporarily affect kidney function, which might lead to elevated levels of metformin in the bloodstream. To minimize this risk, patients are often advised to temporarily discontinue metformin prior to the procedure and resume it afterward, once kidney function is confirmed to be stable.

What is the difference between a body cat scan and a general cat scan?

They are just as they say. An abdominal cat scan is just of that area and a pelvic cat scan is just of that area. Usually if an abdominal cat scan is ordered a pelvis is included so as to cover all things in both areas but if a pelvic cat scan is ordered it usually does not include the abdomen.

How is the patient prepared for an adrenal gland scan?

For two days before and ten days after the injection of the radiopharmaceutical, patients are given either Lugol's solution or potassium iodine. This prevents the thyroid from taking up radioactive iodine and interfering with the scan
