You can't get anything without learning how to do it first then putting in the time doing it under supervision. Would you see a Doctor Who hasn't gone to school and received his/he certification? Well how do you expect people to trust you if you don't know what you are doing? Besides that all health units and city licensing agencies will check your back round to make sure you know what you are doing before they will issue you a license.

How much years of school to be a tattoo artist?

"You must go to art school for 10 years then go to Tattoo Artist school for 15. I suggest going to Yvette's School of Tattoo's. " And if this is the case, then there would be NO tattoo artists, or very few. Ever wonder how there are Tattoo Artists that are 20 years old? Doesn't make sense with the above statement. A tattoo artist goes through a formal apprenticeship, that can vary between 1-8 years depending on the shop and the area.

How do you get your nc tattoo license with out having to work in a tattoo shop?

The laws vary state to state, but as of now, I do not believe that you have to get a "tattoo license" in the state of North Carolina. In a lot of instances the "license" to which people commonly refer to as the "tattoo license" is usually a business license, which you need to legally operate to begin with. This in addition to being trained and passing courses in bloodborne pathogens as well as CPR and basic first aid. Call your local health board.
