Perhaps in the instance of VERY small areas that need filled, but for the most part, no. Since you are asking, I am taking it that you are new to the game, so remember that with tattoos, and the best possible results, you want to do as less damage to the skin as is possible, thereby reducing the amount of trauma and healing time significantly. You'll have to play around with it for awhile before you get a good hand at it. Practice on your own legs, thighs specifically, as this will allow you to perfect having a light yet effective hand, and you can play around with different shading techniques that you will perfect before you try them on a paying customer. Best of luck.

Can you use a flat tattoo needle to make an outline like you can use a magnum tattoo needle?

You can if you need to, but I would not recommend doing this for a whole tattoo. Not that there is anything wrong with it per se, but you are taking at risk unneeded trauma to the skin with this configuration as opposed to using a nice tight Round Liner.

Can you make a homemade tattoo with a needle and an ink pin?

technically yes, you could scar the body in a designed manner. But no, you cannot really get a tattoo with pen ink. You will most likely get ink poisoning

How can you protect yourself from getting hep b from a tattoo needle?

Make sure the shop you go to has a license, is clean and that they ONLY use disposable needles. If you don't see them pulling out a new, sterile needle each time they start a tattoo, then don't get a tattoo from them. - - - - - You're not likely to get a bloodborne disease from a tattoo needle. If you're going to get one from a tattoo shop, it will come from the ink. Tattoo artists don't like to use old needles, and needles aren't expensive--so, unless you go to someone who tattoos out of his house, you'll get new needles when you get a tattoo. The ink is a different story. It is expensive, and they can't use all of it when they give someone a tattoo. You put ink in a tattoo machine by dipping the tip in the ink and stepping on the footpedal, which causes the needle to pull ink into the reservoir. If you're refilling the machine during a tattoo, there's blood in the machine, which winds up in the ink. Some guys are tempted to put the unused ink back in the bottle. So...if you really want to see how good a shop you're dealing with, go watch them do a tattoo--they'll let you. If they finish the tattoo and immediately throw all the ink caps and excess ink into a biohazard bag, it's a safe shop. If they set the ink caps to the side for later, don't go there.

How far do you let a tattoo needle stick out the tube while doing a tattoo?

About the width of a dime. Remember, you are only wanting to go halfway down the dermis. You have seven layers of skin, so you want to go down only three to four layers at most. Going to far will make the ink blurry and will create scarring...not going deep enough will make the ink fall out.

How do you know what size tattoo needle to use?

You place the loop of the needle over the armature bar coupling. This will be held in place with either a disposable rubber hat, or with a piece of paper towel to firmly hold the needle in place and to ensure that there is no play with the needle, which is to say that it will be loose and the needle with rattle around the armature bar coupling and it will make your line work and coloring look erratic. You will set the the bar so that the needles are on the bottom of the bar riding against the tube, not the other way around. Needles straight out of the pack are completely straight, and you will need to bend the bar of the needle a bit to make sure that the needles are completely against the tube. You will then wrap rubber bands around the machine and over the needle bar to make sure that the entirety of the needle is snug and moving around. This is something that you should know well before you ever tattoo a person, so play around on your own legs to get the feel of tattooing before you ever mark another person. Best of luck.

Most common needle used for tattoo outlines?

A three round liner or five round liner (3RL or 5RL) is the most common but it does depend on the look you are after and the overall effect it has on the tattoo, the colours involved, the shading in the colours if any etc. One liners are also available and used for super fine lines like in portrait eyelashes etc. For tribals and the like it won't matter too much but better with a 5RL so that you can use it to fill the corners before you begin with the shader.

How do you make your lips look thicker?

Makeup can do many things. First you need a lip liner in a bit darker shade than your lipstick. Line your outer lip slightly(VERY slightly) outside your lip line. Fill in with your favorite lip shade, but on the center of your lip, make a section with a light lip liner. Gloss the whole thing and your lips will have the look of fuller lips.

How do you shade tattoos?

This takes a good eye and experience for the tattoo artist. There are not many that can shade in a tattoo. It is an art and very difficult. Coloring in and shading are different. To shade you need to have a place where a light would shine then make shadows where they would be if it was a picture. Takes skill. __________________________________________________________________ I disagree that shading is hard. If you have any artistic tendencies and can visualise where things will be darker and lighter you can shade a tattoo. It's no different to where you would shade if you were drawing the picture on paper. From a technical point of view, you need to adjust your machine to a longer stroke so it doesn't hit as fast, wind the voltage down, and use a wash set up to get your shade variations. There are a few different hand motions you can use to achieve smooth shading, circling usually provides the nicest and smoothest shade. It takes practice to get used to the speed and size of circling needed to achieve the desired shading. Practice a lot on yourself before attempting to shade a tattoo on someone else.

How do tattoo guns work?

A tattoo gun works by sucking up ink into a tiny tube. The tube also contains the needle or needles. When the machine is turned on, the needle moves up and down very rapidly and injects the ink into the skin in short bursts.
