The short answer is yes. Acrylic paints can be applied to both canvases and walls, with either a natural or manufactured sponge to get many different finishes.

Painting shoes with acrylics will likely just create a skin that will easily peel off. Acrylic is plastic. It won't stick to the shoes.

Sponge painting is a fun technique to use. You need paint a pan and a sponge. All you do is dip the sponge in the paint then apply to the wall where ever you want the sponge effect to be. It is very fun for kids also.
