The Toyota Echo has an inline 4 cylinder engine. The number one cylinder on all inline 4 cylinder engines is the first piston at the front of the engine. The front of the engine is the end that is opposite the transmission.
The cylinder is where your piston runs, so in easy terms its just your piston housing. So a 4 cylinder engine simply means it has 4 pistons and so on.
On the 4 cylinder engine it is located in the water neck where the hose from the radiator goes on the passenger side of the engine.
A 4-cycle engine that has the intake and exhaust valves located in the cylinder head.
There is NO relationship between number of cylinders and cc of an engine. It could be a 4, 6, or 8 cylinder engine in a car, - or even one cylinder in a medium sized marine engine.
