The Athens society was far better than that of Sparta since Athens was more intellectual and wanted to learn and develop; they were not just focused on war. Sparta was much more practical and learning how to fight was any Spartan's top priority. Athens developed the democracy as well.
It depends which way you look at it.
Athens invented Democracy, and focused mainly in the arts. They relied on trade, and had an amazing navy.
However, women were given NO rights.
Sparta was focused on their army, so that their slaves, the Helots wouldn't rebel. Their navy wasn't extremelly good. They weren't as focused on the arts.
However, women had rights, and were considered citizens
Personally, I like Athens for their arts and I don't like Sparta's focus on war...
but I hate that Athens gives women no rights...
So the final choice is up to you and what you value
Athens is the better society because of its government, education, and society. Although Sparta had a very strong army, Athens had a strong navy. Athenians were also very smart they valued life, not war like Spartans. The government in Athens was better then Sparta's government. The education was also better. You had a better chance of surviving in Athens. (In Sparta if you were not a healthy baby they would put you outside their walls to die!) I hope I answered your question!
Both had become limited democracies with a citizens assembly and a council.
Athens moved to a radical democracy, where fortnightly popular assemblies directed actions, and the council carried out these directions. The law courts were run by citizen juries.
Both were limited democracies where assemblies of the citizens voted on matters put to them by a council. Athens then developed a radical democracy where the assembly of the citizens considered and debated all maters and the council carried out their decisions.
Sparta - oligarchy
Athens - democracy
Athens had a open democracy and Sparta had oligarchy
Most boys had better education than military skillls
Sparta full-time. Athens part-time.
life in athens was focused on education while life in sparta was focused on the military
in Sparta were only free men citizens?
It depends if you are talking about which is stronger the answer would be that Sparta is stronger. They had a strong army but Athens had a better navy or if you want to know which has a better government or better education then the answer would be Athens.
Athens isn't better than sparta. its the other way around!!
Athens is often considered better than Sparta because of its focus on culture, philosophy, and democracy. Athens was a center of arts, education, and intellectual pursuits, while Sparta was primarily a militaristic society. Additionally, Athens gave its citizens more freedom and opportunities for political participation compared to the strict and rigid society of Sparta.
Athens was a democracy and had more liberal (for that time) thinking and had good navy. Sparta was a oligarchy was more conservative and militaristic and had great army. In the war between them (Peloponnesian war), Sparta won.
Sparta Woman had much more freedom the Athenian woman. Sparta woman also had a better education than Athens.

Athens, but it is a matter of opinion
Sparta was stronger because they trained for the military more than Athens.
