I knew Hilda from 1973 until her death, and discussed much of her life with her. She never spoke about painting herself. Gene Morley, her second husband, was a painter connected to the New York School and it was through him that she developed her eye and love for painting. I often went with her to exhibitions at galleries and museums in New York and elsewhere over the 25 years I knew her. She went to the Lincoln School, a progressive high school on the Upper West Side in New York City, before she went to Palestine. I am sure they would have had art on the curriculum at the school. She had many paintings in her apartment, none were by her. John Blee
