In craft, one employs learned skills to accomplish something. Technical knowledge is used to arrive at an optimal outcome. Craft becomes art when the result or accomplishment has a transcendent quality. It engages an emotion. It provokes a sense of understanding on a deeper level.

In craft, the result is tangible. In art, the result is intangible.

One distinction is that "art" refers to creating unique things, and "crafts" refer to skillfully producing things that could be identical if desired.

A pattern can't be created to duplicate fine art pieces, but crafts always (?!) involve the same sequential steps to produce nearly identical results.

(So I guess by this definition, Scrapbooking and decoupage would be "art".)

art is the stuff you make with crafts

Craft is when you make something useful. Art does not have to be useful.

Art is something you either draw, paint or color. A craft is something where the parts are already made and probably has to be glued together.
