Yes it is its called a lenco transmission, mainly used in drag racing or truck pulls. It's basically a manual trans and an automatic. To get the vehical moving you let out the clutch to go but when you shift thru your forward gears you dont use the clutch.
Most vehicles with Overdrive, have a button on top of the gear-lever knob to engage or disengage the Overdrive Unit.
Less common is a button on the dash.
Although, looking underneath the vehicle, you will notice a secondary gearbox attached to the gearbox at the axle end, or the gearbox appears longer than usual.

A lot of modern cars have the overdrive (1 : <1 ratio) built in as the Top Gear.
Usually the highest gear 5th or 6th will be overdrive Manual transmission vehicles from the 1930's through 1950's had separate control for overdrive And some manual transmission vehicles have no overdrive at all.
i think so
They have a crank handle on them that you turn to open or close.
the output rpm is higher than the input rpm, thus the engine runs at a slower rpm using less fuel
It should tell you in the owners manual. It varies between cars. GoodluckJoe
In the past a manual transmission equipped vehicle would always get better fuel mileage. But on cars built in the last 5 years that is not always true. There are some vehicles where the A/T equipped vehicle gets as good or better fuel mileage than a manual. Especially cars equipped with a CVT automatic transmission.
Most cars can't.
For cars that have an automatic transmission, overdrive lockout turned 'off' (overdrive will engage), is the default option.
if it is an automatic leave it in overdrive. the transmission knows when to change into the overdrive gear. if it is a manual listen to the motor. if you have in overdrive and it bogs down while accelerating then down shift to a lower gear.
The final gear ratio. Exp. 5th gear
Brand new cars must have an owners manual when sold but used cars do not and more often than not there is no owners manual in a used car.
its basically the same thing. an automatic tranny wont go in Overdrive until youre going at a generally constant speed. the same is true with a manual transmission- while driving on average roads (40-55 mph) you will not shift into the final gear until you are going at a constant speed. Overdrive is a gear that turns the vehicle driveshaft faster than the engine and is used to improve fuel mileage (and also lower CO2 emissions). Typically 5 or greater in a manual or 4th gear or greater in an automatic is overdrive but there are exceptions. Because of CAFE (fuel economy standards) virtually all cars and small trucks have come factory with ovedrive since 1981.
no adjustment on the 5speed manual transmission with overdrive. hydraulic clutch
Neither. Racing is almost always in manual transmission.
There may be a reason why a Ford Expedition's overdrive light is flashing. Check the manual to see if there is a reason. If not, take your Ford to a mechanic.
Overdrive relay switch behind the middle air vents..... Manual Transmission: the wires sometimes break if it is the type with the button on the gear/knob/ stick........... if it is a manual transmission.......the switch on the gearbox which tells when 4th gear is engaged can be faulty.....and will not allow the overdrive to engaged.
Clutch pedals are only found in cars with manual transmissions.
Just push the button on gear shift and let off gas thanback on -if everything is working you are in overdrive!
