You must have a license to be a tattoo artist in most places. The license involves health regulations and making sure that there is no danger to the public through the spread of disease. Most states also forbid tattoos on minors.
It depends on your state and county laws/ordinances. Call your local county AND state health departments and ask if they require tattooists to be licensed to tattoo people in your state/county. Also go to the American red cross website and complete their program for certification in preventing the spread of bloodbourne illness for tattoo artists and body piercing. heres a link= https://www.redcrossonlinetraining.org/Distance/Default.aspx?CID=52 this is usually required if nothing else. bag everything you cant throw away after each client and learn all you can before doing a human other than yourself. get an apprenticeship if at all possible, you and your clients will be glad you did.
if you were asking about a LICENSE, the answer is yes. Florida is pretty strict with their laws and is known to have lots of them. You can not even buy supplies from a shop without showing it. (certified by state health dept as well).
THat depends but in most states NO! You see many people saying yes but it's simply not true and I'll tell you why. In most states it is only required for the studio to have certification, not the artists that work there. The reason for this is because there is no formal training for learning how to tattoo that is regulated by the government. Because of that, they cannot require that anyone provide proof of training. However, some states do require that the artists at least be certified in blood borne pathogens, but that is not the case in all states.

When you register for the NCLEX exam, you indicate on your registration which state you are trying to get licensure for. This state then needs to provide your authorization to test. You can take the NCLEX anywhere, and you will get the license for whatever state you put on your registration form. If you are getting a NY state license however, it is not valid in California, only in NY. You need to get your license endorsed over to California through their state board of nursing.
