It does hurt. There isn't much flesh or muscle in your foot to shield some of that pain. I got a tattoo on my foot and my toes would involuntarily shake. Extra info added: I'm a 20 year old female and recently got my left foot done. It was my first one so cannot compare to others but it was painful - it is difficult to stop yourself from twitching as it's a biological response to pain! Just block it out by reading a book or actually watching the tattooist as you can prepare each time you see the needle penetrate the skin. The outline is worse than the shading and near the toes and ankle were the least comfortable. The best thing to do is to expect the absolute worst. It's not excruciating, but if you are really determined to get your foot done, then go for it. I hear you can get numbing gels you can apply to the skin if you are really afraid, but I think they only last 45 minutes or so.

∙ 13y agoYes, it does. You can't wear your shoe because it needs air to heel and it will take time for the pain to go away on your foot. So in other words it can hurt really bad because it is close yo your foot bone and there isn't a lot of tissues there of fat. So that can cause the foot tattoo to hurt to.

I would have to say no that is not normal. I have a large tattoo of a gecko on my foot and the tattoo artist did not blow on my foot while I was getting it done. In fact a lot of tattoo artists won't tattoo feet at all because the ink doesn't hold up very well because of the thin skin on your foot and the constant agitation from shoes and socks.
