It depends on what is causing the pain. I have RA and this can cause inflammation which is painful For this I find that cold for a short time can help. However as a result of theinflammation I also have problems similar to osteoarthritis and in that situation there is nothing better then letting hot water run offer the affected joint.

I have had Rheumatoid arthritis for as far back as I can remember. I have found that the temperatures experienced seasonally really have no effect on arthritis flares. Having said that however, if you are having a problem with pain from arthritis you would be wise to dress warmly during cold spells as pain becomes accentuated on the cold. your muscles tense and your body seems to do all the things it should not to relieve pain. Being able to relax is very important when it comes to pain and cold does not help with that at all. But the chance of having more arthritis flares if the weather is cold does not in my experience increase.

Eating more fruits and vegetables will help ease the pain. Getting more vitamin c will also help the pain. Taking arthritis supplements will help too.

There are some simple things a person can do at home to help relieve hip pain. Try doing some exercises targeted for the hip area, use ice on the area, for arthritis pain use heat and do stretches.
