it depends on how long you keep the tape there and how hard you pull it off. for example if you put it on for lets say, 1 day and you take it off slowly and you don't rip, the paint will stay on. but if you keep it on for lets say, a month and you rip it of, the paint will most likely come off.

Also, it depends on how long you have had the paint on the walls. if you just painted you walls you might want to let the paint set before you put tape on it. But, if your paint has been on her for a long time, like 5 years without a new coat, you should re paint it and then let it set before you but tape on it.

Hope this helps!

Any normal masking tape can damage wall paint if the paint has not cured enough to be soundly attached to the wall or if the paint was applied over a surface that was not sound.

On a sound surface, normal masking tape can be left up for up to three days without damaging the wall, while special tapes are made for delicate surfaces that can be applied to paint that hasn't cured and can be removed anywhere from eight to ninety days later, without taking the paint with it.

Can you use masking tape on a wall you have just painted to get an even edge on the woodwork you are about to gloss?

You don't want to use masking tape. After a short time it will be hard to remove. When your new paint is good and dry, you should use the blue painter's tape. It should come off with out pulling off the paint, but I would try a small test on one spot frist.

What first when Painting dado rails and walls?

paint the wall first and the woodwork later. Acrylic paint for walls is generally applied with much bigger brushes / rollers whereas gloss or eggshell for woodwork can be used with smaller brushes which are more accurate. If the wall paint is dry it is possible to use low tack masking tape to give a sharp edge 'cutting in' to the edges of dados and skirtings where they join the wall. Most professional decorators have very steady hands and do without masking tape.

How soon should you remove blue painting tape after painting?

I like to remove all masking paper and tape after the paint has had enough time to set up but hasn't completely dried. Often, when applying semi-gloss, if you wait too long the tape can peel the paint off of the wall.

Why can't you use masking tape to tape electrical wires?

Masking tape isn't designed to be either insulating or watertight, so it's a really bad choice to use to tape electrical wiring together. What masking tape is designed for is paint masking then easy removal after the paint dries without leaving any residue. If you just temporarily want to tape the wires to a wall or something, it's fine, but using it on exposed wiring is a bad idea, and masking tape isn't designed for longtime service anyway. Masking tape is considered disposable, electrical tape is considered permanent. <<>> Electrical tape has an inherent insulation property. It comes in many thickness and temperature ratings. There are two main types in use in the electrical trade. The PVC tape is the everyday tape used for general insulating purposes. The second type is a rubber amalgamating tape. This type is used on large motor splices. Once the rubber tape is applied, it amalgamates into one mass of rubber to provide the proper insulation value. After the rubber tape is applied an over wrap of PVC tape is applied to provide wear protection to the splice.

How to make uniform stripes with paint?

Using tape and a level, place tape on the areas you do not want the stripes to be, and go bananas on the wall. After it dries, remove the tape. Be sure to use the level, as it ensures the stripes are straight.

What is the easyiest way to paint ZEBRA strips onto my walls?

Paint the entire wall the entire color of what ever your lightest color is(white). Use a high quality tape that is the thickness of the stripe you want. Put the tape over where you want the white strips to be, paint the wall the darker color (black) remove the tape. removing the tape while the paint is wet will be the easiest, but you must be very careful or the paint will blend or be messed up. The tape can be removed when the paint is dry also, but remember the paint either has to be really wet or really dry or it may peel when the tape is removed. And use a good tape, like scotch Blue Painters Tape, Or Frog tape. Dont use the cheap stuff you wont be happy.

Crown molding how to re paint it once it is up without getting the paint on the wall?

The two most common way to paint mouldings without getting paint on the walls are...1) use a good quality painters' tape - Do Not Use Ordinary Masking Tape, the ordinary stuff can and often does peel the wall colour when it is removed. Run the edge of the tape (use 1 1/2" width) right up to the edge of the mouldings on both the wall and the ceiling. Apply your paint. Give it a few minutes to set and then pull your tape off in a smooth motion being careful not to let it touch the wall as you remove it. (bits of still wet paint could transfer to the wall, leaving a mess)2) check your local paint retailer for a "paint shield" This is a rigid piece of metal or plastic with a handle that is placed against the edge of the mouldings as a movable barrier between the old paint and the new paint. It requires a bit of practice and an attention to detail that not everyone is willing to have, but works very well without the time required to tape and then un-tape the walls and ceilings. When working with a paint shield ALWAYS wipe the shield before putting it into a new position. I keep a dampened cloth tied around my thigh when I work, so I can just pull the shield away from the area I'm painting, wipe it quickly (both sides) on the cloth and reposition the shield with a minimum of fuss and bother.
