A degree isn't necessary to do photography for weddings and other events. Many people get a degree, but this is more useful as a job qualification in competitive photography arenas. If you would like to work in fine art, a degree in photography would be useful because you world learn art and photography history, and principles of art. Volunteer or start an internship with a photographer. You'll learn how to set up for a shoot, interact with customers, process film, and other practical skills. This kind of experience can help you begin a career as a photographer without a degree.
