David Hockney is primarily known for his work in 2D, particularly his paintings, drawings, and prints. His vibrant use of color and innovative compositions often explore perspectives and the nature of perception. While he has experimented with 3D elements in some installations and works, his most celebrated contributions are firmly rooted in two-dimensional art.
Vasily Kandinsky's art pieces were primarily 2D, typically created on flat surfaces like canvas or paper. He is known for his abstract works that emphasize colors, shapes, and compositions rather than three-dimensional forms. While some of his ideas influenced later movements that explored 3D art, his own creations remained within the realm of two-dimensional painting.

The importance of 2D art in architecture is to give the architect a general idea and concept of what the actual 3D scaled model is going to look like. It is also used when architects are asked to come up with a concept design of a building and just sketch it out.
Two dimensional (2D) art could be a painting, or flat image. Three dimensional (3D) art could be a statue, or embossed (raised) image.
