I personally recommend heat and Tylenol. The heat loosens the pressure on the foot while the Tylenol helps treat the pain. DO NOT TAKE ibuprofen BEFORE TALKING TO YOUR RHEUMATOLOGIST. It can counteract with your other medicines, depending on what you are taking!
I have Rheumatoid arthritis and according to my Rheumatologist my feet are in pretty bad shape. They give me trouble from time to time however I usually keep it under control using anti inflammatorys. One thing that made a realy big difference is when I stoped wearing the modern soft sneakes and opted for good old fashioned leather shoes with either leather or rubber soles and a normal heel. I have found them far more comfortable and they actually last longer as well.
