Erosion is when a chemical reaction or physical occurence causes a surface to wear away, (whether it be the earth's surface or the surface of a cheese burger in the dump).

Commonly, erosion of the earth's surface is caused when water and air brush the surface, causing small chunks of it to be washed away slowly until a noticable canyon has been made, or when water seeps into cracks in rocks and rests there until winter, when it becomes ice and expands, making the cracks get bigger and deeper.

Wind, water, extreme heat/cold ,pressure are agents of erosion of the top soil on earth's surface.Mining can erode the surface soil .Melting of glaciers, deforestation, flooding of rivers can wash away the top soil just as extreme heat/cold can crumble rocks with the high velocity winds can blow away top soil/erode rocks to form sand dunes.

What is the geographical term for the natural feature smooths out a rough surface?

I believe you are referring to EROSION. (Erosion, Eroded, Eroding...) Erosion is when forces like the weather wear away at the Earth's surface gradually.

Is gravity an agent of erosion?

Wind can pick up small aggregates and soil particles and displace them in another soil series. Wind can also erode rocks by picking up particles of sand that then slowly erode at the exposed rocks.

What and what work together to constantly wear down and carry away rocks on the surface of Earth?

Usually it is erosion by natural elements (wind, rain, excessive water), or chemicals (natural chemicals will break down all elements in a matter of time).

What type of rock can weather and wear away?

All rocks can be susceptible to weathering, or erosion by natural (and sometimes manmade) forces. It does not matter if it is sedimentary, igneous, or metamorphic. Intrusive rocks, below the surface of the Earth's crust, are not as weathered as rocks above the surface (extrusive), which are stripped of sediment and particles more frequently due to water, wind, etc.

How does water erosion wear away the surface of the earth?

Water erosion wears away the surface o the earth by when rain or water falls on the earth constantly it becomes saturated.

What is a way waves cause erosion?

A way waves cause erosion: waves wear away the land and erode the surface.

How does wind and water alter the Earths surface?

Wind and water and frozen water are the main contributors to the weathering and erosion of the surface of the Earth. Along with gravity, these agents wear down elevated surface features and fill in depressed surface features.

How do intrusive igneous rocks become visible in the surface of earth?

it easly wears away and can travel by magma streams or rivers or could wear away into particles called protons and gets blown away by the wind.it can then land somewhere to slowly collect more particles to form an igneous rock in a random place

What 3 processes act together to wear down and build up earths surface?

Uplift replaces rocks on Earth's surface lost the process of erosion.

What is the wearing of soil by wind and water?

Erosion~ The prosses know as weathering breaks up rocks so they can be carried away by the process know as erosion.Water, wind, ice, and waves are the agents of erosion that wear away the surface of the Earth.

What breaks down earths surface?

Primarily the erosive power of wind and water. Rivers and rain will wear away even the hardest stone.
