The use of linetypes on a drawing are used to describe the various features of an object to the person reading the print
An orthographic drawing is one that uses a sort of perspective that does not portray an object the way it would look in a natural space. It shows each side of the object as flat and parallel to the "picture plane." It's not too unlike cubism. (Braque and Picasso explored drawing people and object by showing all sides at once.) This is used in order to give accurate engineering/mathematical dimensions. It is used for the fabrication of mechanical parts, furniture...
orthographics means line is perpendicular to the view plane, while oblique means line is not exactly perpendicular to the view plane.
the importance of Orthographic drawing is a basic understanding of presentation drawing, wherin 3 main views of an object are presented in correct dimension of the height, width and depth.

The different types of pictorial drawing include isometric, oblique, and perspective drawings. Isometric drawings show all three dimensions of an object in a single view with lines parallel to the three major axes. Oblique drawings represent objects in 3D by showing one face in true scale and the other two faces at an angle. Perspective drawings create the illusion of depth and distance by using vanishing points and converging lines.

Hidden lines.
A check that has been cashed and returned to you or has been striked off and marked as cancelled by the person who issued it. This is done by drawing two parallel lines across the check (diagonally) and writing "Cancelled" between the two lines. This is called Cancelling a check and once done, the check is null and void
A. There is more versatility due to the fact that the drafter shows the top and side by projecting oblique lines from a frontal orthographic view. Rather than having to turn the object being sketched to make three sides visible (axonometric).
