Your best start is to find a photograph of someone in "uniform" performing a common and recognisable karate move.
Once you have that.
- Start with a stick figure using small circles for joints, larger half circles for hands & feet, an egg shape for the head and straight lines for bones, to draw out a "skeleton" to work from.
- Be sure you know where your line of balance is. Usually you can find this by drawing a vertical line from the base of the figure's neck to the ground.
If the balance of your figure is off, the figure will always look as if it is about to fall over, so this is an important step.
- Next add the body shape, a basic knowledge of anatomy and muscle placement is helpful.
- Add the "uniform" or clothing, be aware of how fabric drapes and is effected by gravity and movement.
- Now, using the "rough sketch" you have just finished, do a full drawing, add features to the face, and shading to the figure. Working toward a realistic finished picture.
Just for the record, do a lot of practicing, as you become more familiar with human anatomy, the way the human body can and can not move, the way muscles work and the basics of balance, the better your drawings will become. The basics you learn here will translate into better drawing no matter what the subject matter.
