During the latter part of 1800s, many people began to view the Republicans as party of the upper class, as the Republican leaders were often wealthier businessmen, and the party's actions did tend to favor business over farming.

The Northern Democratic Party was the effect of the splitting of the Democratic Party. As the North kept opposing slavery, the south got aggravated Then, the Democratic party split into the Northern and Southern Democratic Party. In the election of 1860, there were two democrats who ran. One from the south, and one from the north. Because of the Democratic party splitting, the election was won by Republican Abraham Lincoln. If the party had not split, we wouldn't have had Abraham Lincoln as our 16th president.

The northern Democrats supported Stephen A. Douglas for President in 1860, but the southern Democrats withheld support for Douglas. The South demanded that Douglas repudiate the Freeport Doctrine and support a federal slave law. The Douglas supporters pointed out that to do that would drive the northern Democrats into the Republican Party.
The Southern Republican party was formed by African American (Freedman), white Northern transplants and Yoeman farmers. These groups joined forces to push towards political reform as part of reconstruction in the South.
There are going to be four people in the election, they are Stephen A. Douglas, Abraham Lincoln, John C. Bell, and John C. Breckenridge. Lincoln was for the Republican Party, Douglas was for the Northern Democrat Party, Bell was for the Constitutional Union Party, and Breckenridge was for the Southern Democrat Party.
