Plattsburgh is located on the shores of Lake Champlain as well as in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. Because of this access to a waterway Plattsburgh has been home to several important battles including The Revolutionary War’s Battle of Valcour Island as well as the War of 1812’s Battle of Plattsburgh. The Adirondack Mountains provide visitors with several outdoor activities including camping, fishing, and hiking. Plattsburgh has a municipal beach that is open from June through September. Plattsburgh has more than just outdoor activities to offer its visitors. They have an Art Center that is free to all as well as several museums. Three of their popular museums are the Battle of Plattsburgh Association War of 1812 Museum, the Champlain Valley Transportation Museum, and the Rockwell Kent Gallery. From lounging on the beach, hiking through the mountains, or combing through Plattsburgh’s many museums visitors will find themselves feeling enriched and enlivened by the time their vacations are finished.
