with the alternator running at around 2200 rpm (for most alternators this is topout meaning it is producing as much power as the rectifier will allow) an ammeter connected to the main power out of the alternator in between the battery and alternator should show you how many amps your alternator is putting out

remember that most newer alternators require a 12vdc signal to "excite"the stator this is usually supplied by a separate positive wire in the pigtail of the alternator

The only current that will be read is the actual current that is being drawn from the alternator at the time of the test. If the battery is down in charge, it will show a high current draw. If the battery charge is satisfied, the current level will only be that of what other circuits are drawing current in the car. The current output is totally dependent on the load on the alternator. The only true way to test the actual current output of the alternator would be to have it load tested at an auto electric store. They run the alternator on a jig and do a load test.

use a voltmeter should read 14.7 with lights on at idle poss.1000 reves,u can buy a cheap voltmeter from an auto parts shop, around 15.00 ,make sure your fan belt is adjusted first, this is the cause of many battery problems, taxi and some other cars have a heavy duty alternator u will get setting from manual or dealer,i am a qualified motor engineer for the R.A.C. good luck

What is the difference between Alternators and generators?

Generators produce electricity as direct current and Alternators produce electricity as alternating current. As alternators produce electricity more effeciently, and they are smaller and lighter and are used in modern vehicles.A generator creates direct current in the manufacture of power. An Alternator creates alternating current in the creation of power. Alternators can have diodes installed internally so that they have a D.C. output.

Could you inform me about high output alternators?

If you would like information on high output alternators I would suggest looking at the following very informative websites: www.qualitypowerauto.com and www.knowledgesonicelectronics.com.

Why ac is not uses in rotor of alternators?

This question is not clear since alternators produce alternating current.

What is the difference between the welding current produced by alternator and the one produced by a generators?

Alternators produce Direct Current, Generators produce Alternating Current. Todays' cars have Alternators to charge the batteries.

Do generators supply direct current?

Yes. Alternators supply alternating current.

In the generation of electricity commutator would be used on an alternating current generator and slip rings would be used on a direct current generator?

No. Just the opposite. An AC alternator uses slip rings, a DC generator uses a commutator. Most modern auto alternators are in fact AC alternators that rectify the AC output to DC using a diode bridge.

Can you generate direct current?

Direct current can be generated by a generator. Generators are not as efficient as alternators ( that generated AC power ). Vehicles use direct current but come equipped with alternators. The AC power is rectified ( changed to DC ) for use.

What conditions must be met before two alternators can be paralleled together?

before two alternators can be connected in parallel, the output voltage of the two machines should be the same, the phase rotation of the machines must be the same, and the output voltages of the two machines must be in phase.

How do you check a transformer for ac house unit?

Check that the input and output voltages are as required. Check that the transformer is big enough for the current required for the unit you have.

What is difference between output current and pulse current?

It is a language in electronics describing whether the output is a pulse or direct current for any output.

Why input current of USis less than Output current?

Why input current of USis less than Output current?

What type of current produced in alternator?

Alternators usually produce AC current but in an automobile the current is fed through diodes which coverts it to DC power that the car can use.
