How do you create a collage?

A collage is work of art that consists of taking things such as newspaper or magazine clippings, ribbons, pictures, or other objects and gluing them together on a canvas or paper. So you could take some pictures in a magazine and glue them together to make a whole new picture, possibly cutting the pictures into shapes of people. Picasso's Guernica does this somewhat, except with newspaper clippings.

Well, the collage art form is fairly open, so there aren't rigid rules about how to do it... in general though, you would take the pictures that you chose (photographs, pictures from magazines, or graphical images from other sources), and glue them (or attach them somehow... mod podge... sticktak... whatever) all to posterboard (or paper, or a wall...). Many people will vary the way they trim the pictures, or the size of the pictures and how they overlap so that they look good together. You could make one picture the central theme and then add pictures that relate to that central picture somehow, or you can match horizon lines in a bunch of photos in a line to make a sort of related area, even though they are different places. ... There are a lot of interesting things that you can do with a collage (pictures, or words, or a mixture, or candy, or ... anything)... but basically a collage is just a bunch of things pasted onto a flat surface. (They have other words for it when you paste stuff to a box or a book). :)

The same idea as a regular collage, but you would be using digital images, and putting them together into one graphics file so you could display it as your background, or send it to someone else. You could even do it in Microsoft Word I suppose. Anyway, you would pull all the pictures/words/files that you wanted into one program (Word, or Paint Shop Pro, or Illustrator, or Quark Xpress, or whatever...), and then you would arrange them pleasingly. :) All of those programs will allow you to overlap images just as with a regular collage, and when you are doing it digitally, you can also do weird things like blurring the edges, or color replacement, or pasting a realistic moustache on uncle Henry's picture... when you have it looking great, then you save it as a single file, and you can use it for your background, or send it to aunt Mary so she can laugh at the moustache, or whatever. ;)

You may think Adobe Photoshop is difficult to use. There are also some other small and easy-to-user software, such as Picasa from Google, which is a good Photo editor.

You may download PhotoShop. That may help. Or make a PowerPoint and keep posting pictures. :)
