start with a slip-knot. reach through the loop with your fingers and grab yarn through. pull tight and shorten the new loop. Might be easier if you already know how to crochet or can have someone who knows show you. hooks aren't very expensive and since it's hard to do anything more than a basic chain with your fingers, you might be better off running to your nearest Walmart and spending $1.50 on one:) there's tons of links online with videos of how to crochet. try diynetwork.com to start with
