Wood crafts are a fickle project and there is no easy answer. To best help you will need to do two things. First is find out your material and physical costs. That means things like gas or electricity used to build the project. Then come up with a price based on this. That's the bottom line. Second thing is go price some other projects and vendor items that are compatible to yours. Armed with this information you can come up with a reasonable price to start things out. Then you can adjust the price to vary the sales. Simple supply and demand economics after that. I had a friend who does signs of peoples names out of wood and he goes to all the fairs. He started at 5 dollars a sign and the materials were only a buck or two depending on the paint and finish. What he ended up finding is that everyone wanted his stuff and he had to take orders and then work all night to get them done for the next day. So he adjusted his price up to 10 , even 25 dollars for some pieces. Yes this didn't allow as many to be sold but his intake doubled and he didn't have to work all night to get the items done. The reputation he had also went up so high he had to hire several guys to go around and do the work for him after awhile. Then he went to one show where he didn't sell anything for several days. Yep wood country. So he adjusted his price to just above cost and he came away at least making expenses.

How much do handmade afghans cost at arts and craft shows?

It depends! :) Wonderful answer isn't it? lol Well, it depends on the kind of yarn you used, how big it is, how complex the stitches/designs are and if you're willing to price them at their worth. For example, an afghan knit from a very soft wool, is going to sell for more than one made of acrylic. (But your costs will be higher) The bigger it is, the more you can sell it for, unless it's a baby blanket made with complex stitches, such as lace or aran knitting. And you can still get a pretty good price for those. Don't be afraid to price it for what it's worth. Look in the specialty stores to see what similar pieces cost. Charge a little less then them, you don't have their overhead. Participate in juried shows, or the best shows only, not shows that allow a lot of imported reseller crap. They will drag down the prices of all the hand made things.

What do you charge a bar-nightclub for karaoke services?

A good KJ (karaoke host) with good equipment will charge anywhere between $100 and $250 a night. All depends on day/night of the week, how much equipment he or she is bringing and how long the show is. I would be wary of a KJ that charges $100 for a show. Ask to see the equipment or where one of their current shows is located. Some KJs that don't charge much have been said to have stolen their music. Karaoke music costs A LOT. On average, $3 per song. So if someone claims to have over 100,000 songs, but they only charge $100 to do a show... Some companies that create karaoke songs have been know to sue KJs for using stolen music, and the venue can be help liable as well. As an example, we (Barcrawler Entertainment) charge(s) $200 for a standard weekly show of 4 to 5 hours. I used high quality audio equipment that could be used to record a live band and top of the line karaoke software. You might ask why I don't charge more if I use expensive equipment. We have over 20 karaoke shows and we pay off my new equipment rather quickly because of this. I've noticed some KJs that charge $250 or more a show because its the only show they have and they are trying to pay off the thousands of dollars in equipment costs. We even cut deals on multiple shows per week. Advertising is part of our payment. We want to make the show successful so we do our best to get as many singers and listeners to be there each week.

Where can you find listings of local art and craft shows?

Most of them will post in the local newspaper, which often has an online entertainment listing. Some will only be local to the neighborhood, and will advertise by flier or to church/club members only. One good source is your local craft supplier, such as the bead shops, the hobby shops, and the fabric shops. You can usually finds lists of arts & crafts shows by typing "Arts and Crafts shows + (your town)" in your search box. There are probably many local clubs that specialize in different crafts, and you can often find them by doing a standard websearch, such as "arts and crafts clubs + (name of town)"
