What is the difference between Lustre Paint and Emulsion Paint?

Emulsion is a type of paint, some call it latex, and it is water based. Emulsion paint comes in several gloss factors (levels).Gloss paint refers to the hardness of the finish and the amount of light reflected from it.The most common gloss factors (from least to most) are:Matte - used for ceilings and areas that do not get touched, or in some cases for the depth of color. This paint can not be washed or cleaned without ruining the finish.Eggshell - used commonly in bedrooms, living rooms and areas where there is a minimum of hand traffic. The color depth and finish are esthetically pleasing and you can wipe fingerprints and mild dirt off without marring the finish.Pearl - this is a relatively new finish that can be used in kitchens, bathrooms and high traffic hallways. Many of my clients use this in children's play rooms. Because the finish is harder you can actually wash these walls to remove dirt.Semi-gloss - This is the traditional finish for trim, and was once used in kitchens and baths because the harder finish was less permeable to water. The hardness factor allows the paint to stand up better to wear and tear and can be washed repeatedly, making it ideal for baseboards, casings, other trim work.Gloss - With the range of gloss factors available today, full gloss paint is most commonly used for furniture these days. The hardness factor makes a nice smooth, durable finish.

Can fabric paint smudge when the fabric is washed?

Once the paint is dry, it shouldn't smudge or run, if it did, the paint wasn't dry. (Fabric Paint, is just like enamel paint, it just has extra ingredients in the paint so it can be washed)

How do you make a flat paint into satin?

No, there is not a product In America that can do that. I work for Sherwin-Williams and know this for a fact. If you add more of the High Gloss version of the same exact color you can move the gloss from flat to satin.

Using a Paint Gun?

If you follow a few tips, a paint gun can make your paint job easier. Paint guns require consistency. You must always keep the distance between the paint gun and surface being painted the same for the entire pass. Dont stop once you start painting; finish the entire section or wall. Make two passes with the paint gun. For larger areas, begin in the corner and make a regular zigzag pattern to prevent uneven coats and to produce a smooth finish. Paint dries fast. Clean the equipment quickly and thoroughly to keep your paint gun in good working order.

Once paint is stripped from old pine is there anything you can do so stain will cover evenly?

After stripping apply a "wood conditioner" such as "Benite" (this is a brand sold at paint stores here on the left coast). A word of caution though, once you've applied a wood conditioner you will get a more even finish - at the expense of highlights.
