When we were caught in a fire, the road blocked by burning trees, we walked our horses down the creak. We soaked our coats and hats to keep the flying coals from burning too bad. And soaked our sleeping bags and threw them over the horses. Tried to stay as low in the water as possible, but we still had to keep the horses calm. We had to cut a few trees out of the way as the fell across the water. Left my sister and mother back a bit with the horses, while my brother and I got close enough to the fire to use our camping axe and shovel to clear the way.

Followed the creak until it turned into a deeper, wider river. Harder to fight the current, but easier to stay away from the flames that just ate up both shores. Followed it all the way down to the end of the bay, nearly nine miles.

And we were joined by all sort of forest critters.

We saw deer and raccoons in the water. Even a family of bobcats.

If it wasn't for running for our lives it would have been an amazing site.
