If you have the horses registration papers you can call AQHA with the registration number and they can tell you, or if you don't have the papers but know the horses name you can call AQHA they can tell you and possibly guide you in obtaining the horses papers

Has a quarter horse ever been in Kentucky Derby?

No solid numbers tell the exact population. However, we can get a rough estimate by looking at the general horse population of Kentucky and the percentage of horses in the US that are quarter horses. According to a 2005 equine census, Kentucky was home to 320,173 horses. A 1998 poll (apologies for not being able to find anything more recent) found quarter horses make up 39.5% of the US horse population. therefore our rough estimate for number of quarter horses in KY are 320173 * .395 = 126,468.

Can a overo horse be a quarter horse?

Yes, it can. The overo color is just a color, you can find it on an Arabian, thoroughbred (Rarley) and even a quarter horse. I ride a horse that is a quarter mare, she was in nationals, and she is overo. So yes. its possible

What quarter horse has the highest speed index?

Contact or ask the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) about their speed index chart. It is issued annually so the one you find may not be the most recent one.

What saddle tree fits a mustang best would the Arabian the full quarter horse or semi bars best conform to the short flat back and shape of the mustang withers?

well im not sure which would fit best but a way you can find out is by taking a metal coat hanger or long strip of wire, unbend the coat hanger and shape it to the horses withers, then when you go to look at saddles just take the coat hanger with you and see which saddle fits the hanger best......never used it heard it works :)

What is the proper method for fitting the following breeds for halter Quarter Horse Arabian Appaloosa?

This would require an extremely long answer, especially with three different breeds. The first thing you need to do is write or go online to these three registries sites and have them send you their rulebooks. This will describe the classes and what is required to show your horse. While you are waiting for the rulebooks find some shows you can go to so you can see first hand how each breed is shown in-hand. There are certain types of clothes, halters and ways of grooming that will probably not be in the rulebooks. Ask questions and pay close attention to the way the handlers handle their horses. Watch the ones that are winning and observe the ones that don't win. There is so much to know just for this one kind of class.

Is a overo paint horse a quarter horse?

Quarter horses are a breed, where Overo is a pattern, similar to Tobiano. "Paint" horses are considered their own breeds too. Try looking into this horse's genetics to find out more about it's blood lines. Certainly a Quarter Horse may have an Overo pattern, but so can a Paint horse.

It is not difficult to find the history of your horse. But your horse must be registered to find it. If in fact your horse is registered, you can look up your horse's pedigree on the internet. But if you horse is not registered, I am sorry but I do not know how to help you.

What is the gentlest horse?

There is no breed for the gentlest horse, because all horses are different! I started out riding a Quarter horse. There are some breeds, like a Throughbred, that might be a little too advanced, but there are so many nice, gentle horses out there, your bound to find lots of ones that you like!

How do you find the pedigree of your horse with just his name?

Well this could be difficult. If you know the horses registered name and not just the barn name, what breed it is, and when it's birthday is. You could take pictures of it and email them plus the info to the breed association and see if they might be able to help you find out. If you bought the horse from someone, they may still have the horses papers and be able to transfer them to you.

Where can American quarter horses be found?

What horses are good family horses?

Arabians horses in my experience are the best family horses because they are strong, sweet, and controllable. There are actually many horse breeds that are fine family horses. You will find very nice horses from many different breeds. I have Percherons, quarter horses, mustangs, thoroughbreds, and morgans. You can find calm horses in just about any breed. Personally, I would tend to go toward lower maintenance horses, such as mustangs, quarter horses or morgans. These tend to have fewer problems with bone structure and almost zero foot problems. Thoroughbreds tend to be higher maintenance horses and can be high strung. If you are unsure of any horse, lease it for awhile before you buy.

Is a quarter horse better then an Arab?

This is a matter of opinion. You would have to go out and look at a few horses of each breed, maybe ride them if you can and see what you like better. And also, you need to decide what you want in a horse. Arabs have great stamina, but Quarter horses are the fastest horses in the world, being clocked at 55 mph, but only over short distances. Also, Arabians are the most popular breed in the world, followed by Quarter horses in second. but, in America, Quarter horses are the most popular. Quarter horses are a more common western mount than Arabians are. And as a general rule, Quarter horses are calmer and more dependable, while Arabians are very high-spirited. HOWEVER, there are exceptions to every rule, and you will find some very excitable Quarter horses and some very calm Arabians.
