∙ 15y agoNot commonly done would be to coat fabric with light sensitive emulsion, then expose and develop according to the product instructions. Most likely, you are referring to the process where a photograph's emulsion is stripped from most of the paper backing, then adhered to canvas in a press operation. Many photo printers offer this service. To demonstrate the separation part, try peeling off the image from an old photo you don't need.

∙ 14y agoIt used to be a difficult process but with the new digital technology now available it is much easier. As in all things, there are many ways to do something. This is just one suggestion:
1. Digitize the image. (Take a picture of it with your digital camera or take it to a professional digital printer and have them scan it.) 300 dpi is standard for high quality prints.
2. Take the digital image to a digital printing center that will print on alternative media, i.e., water color paper, canvas, etc. Do an internet search for digital print houses. You can find places where they will let you use the equipment yourself.

The print layer containing the emulsion is stripped from the paper backing and applied to a canvas which is then stretched over a board or within a frame. If you have a spare print, try separating the emulsion layer (image layer) from the paper substrate just for fun.

If you don't have a suitable printer at home then I would suggest to look online for companies that sell customisable canvas prints. Canvas prints really brighten up the room. Printable canvas prints comes in lots of different weights and textures, if you are doing it from home choose a canvas that is suitable for ink jet printers.
1. Search online for personalised Canvas Prints - and find a site you like
2. Choose a size canvas & materials
3. Upload your chosen image
The way they print on the canvas: Firstly the image is saved as a pdf or other compatible file, instead of paper they have a printer with a canvas real in it - the image gets sent to the printer from the computer to tell it what to print. This will then print like a normal printer (With ink) on to the canvas. When it is finished this will be trimmed to size and hand-finished in their studio for you.
