Locate #1 piston top dead center on the firing position. Harmonic ballancer has a mark of 0 to line up with the pointer. Make sure you are lining up on the compression stroke of #1 and not the exhaust stroke. Drop the distribuitor with the rotor pointing straight to the front of the radiator. This would be the 6 oclock position as you are looking at the engine. The distributor may not drop all the way down because of the oil pump shaft not being lined up but don't worry, as you turn the engine it will line up and drop down all the way. The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Distributor turns clockwise so the #1 spark wire would be at 6 oclock and #8 at 7 oclock. This should get the engine to start up so You can put a timing light on the harmonic balancer and set the timing.
