Let me first say, I am not familiar with the 98, BUT if it is like the 2000 then you are in for a real treat. The 2000 2.4L is equipped with a water pump that is down and rear on the belt, thus it is buried and requires the exhaust manifold and timing to be removed/altered. It is a real gem and most places around here won't do it for less than 600 labor. If you want to do it yourself, here's what one mechanic told me....He said it was easier to remove the engine and do it. I've been a mechanic for 15 yrs and it is one of the worst designs I have ever seen.
Parts and labor, aprox $500.
