The main electric fuel pump is located just forward of the left rear wheel under the car. There is also two small electric fuel shutoff solenoid valves located on the carbs. One valve on each carb. Even if the main pump is working, if the carb solenoid valves are inop, no fuel will go to the carbs.
Emergency Fuel Shutoff is a sensor that is designed to detect collisions and shut off the fuel supply to the engine in case of damage. It's goal is to reduce the likely hood of fire/explosion.
Common signs of a toilet shutoff valve leak include water pooling around the base of the toilet, a constant sound of running water, and a decrease in water pressure. To fix a toilet shutoff valve leak, you can try tightening the connections, replacing the washers or seals, or replacing the entire valve if necessary.
To replace the fuel shutoff valve on an '87 Mercedes 300D, first, ensure the engine is off and cool. Disconnect the battery, then locate the fuel shutoff valve near the injection pump. Remove the fuel lines connected to the valve, taking care to catch any spilling fuel. Finally, unbolt the old valve, install the new one, reconnect the fuel lines, and reattach the battery before starting the engine to check for leaks.

Look in the owners manual for information concerning a "fuel shutoff switch." A security mechanism. You may or may not have one. You will need to find where it's located and read the owners manual on how to reset it. I have to shut off the ignition, all accessories, remove keys from the starter and press the reset button on the shutoff switch, wait a few seconds and then attempt to start the car again. If the car does not start after a few attempts, the switch may need to be replaced. A bad switch will prevent a car from starting even when the battery and fuse are good. A good switch shuts off the fuel when the car is in an accident or when someone is tampering with the starter.
