The only "fake" machines out there are homemade rotary machines, which are the kind that they use in prison. These are not hard to miss since the people that are making them usually have NO knowledge of actual tattooing or machine building, let alone small electronics knowledge. They are commonly a low voltage motor taken out of a toy car or some other inferior product, and these round motors are commonly lashed to spoon handles or to a toothbrush handle and the whole thing is held together with electrical or duct tape most of the time. The "tubes" that they use are usually the barrel to a mechanical pencil and needles are usually a paper clip with a single sewing needle super glued, or tied to it with sewing thread. All in all, these are complete garbage and should never be used to tattoo with, but there are leading edge machines that are rotary in nature, but the motors that are used on them are of a much higher voltage output and run smoother than the motors that are taken out of toy cars and the like. These are attached to real frames made out of steel, copper, or brass. So, if it looks like a piece of garbage made in someone's bedroom, that is a "fake" machine and is worth about its weight in manure. They do nothing but tear up the skin and they barely shove ink into the skin, and the ink that they do put into the skin usually falls out during the prolonged healing time due to the fact that the person whom is usually using a machine like that has no idea what they are doing.
