Press the Home Button twice (really quickly), then when a bar with icons of all running apps appears, hold your finger on one until the icons starts shaking. Once they are shaking press the red dot on an icon to close the app. Once finished press the home button twice again. Note you can not close an app that you are using, you have to go to the Home Screen to close all the apps.
