We have thousands of these on our body and at certain times in certain people there is increase in production of something called 'sebum' which is a kind of gunk around the hair and causes the pustular lesion we call a 'spot'. Lots of things are involved in causing this this but in particular hormones that are all around in teenage years make people get more spots.
