Gently lift the brides dress and try to remove it discreetly. Removing the garter with your teeth is bad taste, and highly unrecommended.

When do you give your date the garter?

You might give your date the garter during the wedding reception. If you catch the garter that the groom has thrown, you will then be encouraged to put the garter on the leg of the woman who caught the bouquet.

What do you do with the wedding garter after you catch it at the wedding?

Along with music the bride will sit on a chair; lift her dress up just above her knee and the groom will slowly take the garter off her leg. Once the groom has the garter all the single young men stand behind him and the groom throws it out to them. The single young man that catches the garter is suppose to be the one that will be getting married next.

Generally 1 decorative garter is worn to be removed from the brides leg by the groom, during the reception. What if the bride and groom forget to throw the bouquet and garter is their any fable to this?

There is no bad myths or fables connected with the bride who forget to throw her bouquet away or for the groom that did not throw the garter to the single men. Sometimes the bride may want to keep her bridal bouquet for different reasons such as: an ill mother who could not make it to the wedding; giving it to her grandmother; putting the wedding bouquet on a deceased parent's plot at the cemetery or, the bride may want to keep the bouquet for herself and have it preserved by a professional. As far as the garter it is just a traditional myth that whatever single young man catches the garter will be the next one to get married.

What does the Bride wear on her thigh during the Wedding?

The bride wears a garter about three inches above her knee. When it's time she will sit on a chair and music will play; the groom will make a big production of taking the garter off his bride and then throwing it over his shoulder to the single men behind him. Whoever catches the garter is suppose to be the next one married.

What does a wedding garter symbolize?

Today, garters symbolize mystery and virginity, especially if it is blue, and well hidden under layers of crinoline! There are two types of garters. One is a belt garter. The other type is one for each leg.Years ago women wore garters to keep their stockings up (perhaps some still do!). So they don't really symbolize anything. But on the wedding night the bridegroom would have a nice surprise to find his bride wearing brightly colored leg garters, or just one, worn on a part of the leg that is not normally exposed to the general public! So this would be something special, just for him! (Her little secret!)Garters are available in many different colors and styles. The particular color chosen can be interpreted as meaning something, but often the style/color selected is just a matter of personal preference.Bachelors are gathered to wait for the groom to throw the bride's garter and whoever catches the garter will be the next one married. The bride wears her garter approximately 2 inches above the knee. The reason she wears the garter is purely traditions ... near the end before the bride and groom go upstairs to change into other clothes before going away on their wedding night the bride will be seated on a chair (music ... generally stripping music) will be played and groom will kneel down; lift the bride's dress up a bit and take the garter off. Once the groom has the garter he will throw it towards the group of bachelors and the bachelor that catches the garter is suppose to be the next one married.

In a wedding what does the bride wear on her thigh?

I think it's called a garter. It's usually made out of some sort of elastic and covered with a form of lace. It's usually removed by the groom during the reception, which means he has to go under the bride's dress with loads of people watching. What's done with it afterwards, is up to the newlyweds.
