Who influenced Sandy Skoglund?

INFLUENCES: What artists have influenced you? Are there artists today that you admire and what aspects of their work do you like? I've been influenced by Claus Oldenberg in his overall approach to art, his interest in culture and the products of culture. I feel a kinship with him in his use of humor and also horror although one might not see his work as being so horrific. I particularly admire the work of Ann Hamilton in its scale and obsession and ambition and use of materials. I also like the work of the sculptor, Rona Pondick. What are the Differences between past visual arts and present visual arts?

Today we have many ways to show, make and display art. Art can be on a computer, a movie screen, on a TV , in print, or as a painting. There are so many forms we can use today that the only limits are our the minds. The art of the past was mainly 3 or 4 forms and bound by what was available. It was paintings, sculpture, and carvings. Early art was on cave walls and perspective in art only began to develop in the Renaissance. For the artist it was very hard to make the colors needed and to obtain the paints. Much of it was natural materials ground up. Art was also mainly one topic and it was religious. Today it can be anything. In some ways we have so much, but have also lost something in art that the past gave us. I think that is why we still look in awe at the great art in museums.
