He did not tell us, but in the last few months he made one painting every day.
He painted it at the asylum in St Remy. There are no records of the time it took, but we know Vincent painted very fast in his last years, so no more than a few days.
Vincent's older brother, who was also named Vincent, died exactly one year before the painter Vincent was born. Theo who was actually Vincent's younger brother died in 1891, roughly six months after his older brother.
he wrote him a very long letter about the importance of color orange in his work and its relation to his obsession of eating them
He made seven Sunflower paintings. He did not record the time spent on ech one.
No because he did not get married However there were some speculations that he had a child with the prostitute he lived with, Sien (some further reading here: http://thegirlwithgreatexpectations.wordpress.com/2013/06/05/sien-and-van-gogh-a-significant-episode-in-his-controversial-life/ ) but they had not been acquainted long enough by the time she gave birth, so it was imposible for him to be the father.
For about eight years.
Not until long after his death.
8 years as most kids in those days.

His first paintings are from 1881, he died in 1890.
No! He died a long time ago, because he killed himself with a gun that he borrowed from a friend. He was a great artist.

no. he was born in 1853 and died in 1890. you may have seen a painting that said: Vincent Van Gogh, 1870-1879. Than you were wondering whether he was just 9 yrs old when he died, correct? That's very cute :) Whenever you see dates like that on a description of a painting, it means that it took the painter that long to finish a painting. Those dates refer to the start and completion of the painting, not the lifespan of the artist. I see nothing the matter with that question, for they are asking whether or not he was an artist also between those dates. Myself I'd haft to say he definitely was, for in fact there are works of his in van Gogh books right now dated between those dates. Have you ever seen any of the French miners and workers he had drawn while he was preaching at the mining town of Baronage? Some of the carpenters who work at his father's carpenter shop for his church said when questioned after Vincent's death,... they seen things he had made from wood and remember seeing his drawings while saying they also seen him paint in colours when he was still a young child. Only thing about this statement is,... you cannot take it to the bank with you when showing your own prised early Vincent van Gogh.
Writing about Michelangelo during his lifetime report that for "several months" after finishing the Sistine Chapel he had difficulty reading in any posture but looking up. This was thought to be due to the weeks and months he spent standing on scaffolds and looking up to paint the ceiling. Late in life, he died at age 88, his eyesight had dimmed and was blamed on a lifetime of study. His symptoms would indicate that he developed macular degeneration - not uncommon at that age. Since he finished the Sistine Chapel at age 37 and continued to important architecture work such as St. Peters dome, it is unlikely that the Sistine Chapel work had any major long-term impact on his eyesight.
